Akki Memorial Print

"Akki"

SSgt Plemons was Akki's handler, here is a little bit about Akki in his own words:

MWD Akki/B363 was assigned to the 62d Security Forces Squadron, McChord AFB, Washington. Akki was deployed with the 2d MP Battalion, USMC at Forward Operating Base Iskandariyah, Iraq. Akki’s main job was to conduct infantry combat operations. He was responsible for searching the surrounding cities for IED’s and weapons caches as well as conduct combat patrols and aid in the capture of wanted insurgents. On 2 Oct 2005 Akki lost his life in Iraq when the room he was in caught fire, Akki was responsible for saving lives as he found several IED’s and weapons caches. 4 soldiers, who worked with him daily, went into the room with total disregard for their safety and attempted to save his life, for their bravery they almost lost theirs. Akki was a true hero and great partner. When the fight was tough Akki never gave up, he worked and gave his all even when it was all on the line. He will never be forgotten.

About the Artist:

Ron Ruelle has been seriously cartooning since he started school. Where his
worst critic has been his 3rd grade math teacher who complained that "he
doodled too much during class."

With great perseverance and practice, Ron fine tuned his craft and created a
daily strip for 4 years at the University of Tennessee called Stoner's Aquarium.  Upon
entering "the real world" Ron created a daily strip called At the ZU which was syndicated around the
world. Deciding that "stripping" was not where he wanted to be, Ron moved on and got
edgy with Food, Shelter, Cable.   He also works with a number of advertising agencies doing
creative work for various publications too numerous to recount
here.

After meeting his fabulous wife and her crazy dog Gomez they created Gomez
Gear. Once again Ron was inspired by this zany dog to create the best Schiperkee
dog cartoons out there.

Through friends and family Ron has been blessed with creative challenges and
has wowed everyone with his talent on each project. We would like to thank
Sheri Wells and her family for this opportunity to thank all military dog
handlers for their dedication to their dogs and countries. And to Ron's 4th grade
math teacher..."Pffbthb:P" !
