Buck and his master, Vietnam scout dog handler Johnny Mayo, visited The Vietnam National Memorial Wall in the year 2000..A snapshot of Buck gazing at the Wall was taken and the rest is history. Over the next five years Buck traveled over 25,000 miles across America as a voice for the 4,000 heroic war dogs that served in the jungles of Vietnam.

Michael Lemish is the official historian for the Vietnam Dog Handler Association and is a board member of the Space Coast War Dog Association. His first book "War Dogs - Canines in Combat" (Potomac Books) was published in 1996. His second book “Forever Forward: K-9 Operations in Vietnam was published in 2010. He has contributed to war dog documentaries that have appeared on The History Channel, PBS, BBC, The Discovery Channel, and Histories Mysteries.
